If you change teams, you restart your 20 million XP “journey”. It’s 120 coins per incubator, and each incubator can be used 3 times. Obviously this entire process can be heavily sped up by spending money. Or 1.8 years if you walk 5km day but don't use coins at all towards that goal.
Obviously if you walk little and don't get your free coins (or put them towards something else like raid passes) then yes, it will be out of reach. Even if it's only 2km per day, and exclusively incubate 7km eggs, that's still 9km towards the goal every day, leaving you at 370 days. if you then walk 5km every day, that's a total of 15km towards the 3'335km goal. Let's say you only incubate 10km eggs and buy only when it's not on sale (so 150 coins each incubator, 50 coins per charge).

It's a lot of work for a free to play player, but it's not impossible. This is completely without events, free coins etc. With 1/3rd ratio of 2km, 5km, 10km, it's on average 6.67km to walk per egg.
